Habitat & installation

How soon will animals move in?

It varies. Some boxes are used within weeks, others take months. We assess habitat, nearby species and connectivity first, so every hollow has the best chance.

Can I buy a single nest box?

Placement decides whether a box gets used, so we always install. Our smallest package, the Backyard Starter, includes two boxes chosen for your site and installation.

Will installation harm my trees?

No. We use custom marine-grade 316 stainless-steel hook-and-eye fixings, installed by qualified, insured climbers, to hold each hollow securely with minimal impact on the tree.

How do you choose where hollows go?

On the day, our habitat specialists pick the best tree, height and aspect for each hollow, with the entrance facing away from harsh afternoon sun and prevailing weather.

What if feral bees move in?

European honeybees sometimes take over hollows. We spot this during monitoring and recommend treatment or relocation, quoted separately.

Monitoring

How do you monitor the habitat?

Each hollow is GPS-located and logged. We inspect inside with a telescopic pole camera that reaches hollows up to 18 m, and use infrared wildlife cameras, bioacoustic recorders and thermal drones where needed.

Will I get reports?

Yes. A written report with photos follows each monitoring round. Annual monitoring includes two rounds, in autumn and spring.

Owls-eat-Rats

Do I have to stop using rat bait?

Yes for anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs), because owls that eat poisoned rats die. We help you plan a staged transition with safer options while owls establish.

Does it work?

Under the right conditions, one breeding cycle can remove around 1,000 rats. We model three phases: establish in year one, stabilise in year two, suppress in year three. We’re now testing results across partner farms.

What if my neighbours still use poison?

We work with neighbours where we can. If the risk to the owls can’t be managed, we won’t proceed, because the system won’t work.

Pricing & booking

How much does a project cost?

Packages for smaller properties have fixed prices. Larger projects depend on the property, the habitat needed and monitoring, and get an itemised quote once we understand your site.

Do you visit every property before quoting?

Not always. For packages and smaller properties we plan from your details, photos and maps, then check the site on installation day. Larger projects include a site assessment as part of the proposal.

How do payments work?

A 50% deposit is due before we start on site. The balance, adjusted to actual costs, is invoiced on completion of installation and due within 7 days.

Where do you work?

Our home base is the Northern Rivers of NSW, on Bundjalung Country. Beneficial Wildlife sites also run in the Southern Highlands and are expanding into Victoria and Queensland.
